Mr. W.S. (Bobby) Melton Sr., 90, of the Sunset Lake area west of Bartlesville, died on Friday evening, March 10, 2017 at the Medicalodge of Dewey.

Visitation for Mr. Melton will be held at the Stumpff Funeral Home on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 9 A.M. until 8 P.M.

Funeral services for Mr. Melton will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Spirit Church in Bartlesville with Pastor Darryl Wootton officiating. Military services will be accorded by the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105 and interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations for music programs to be made to the Bartlesville Public School Foundation, c/o the Bartlesville Community Foundation, 208 East 4th Street, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74003.

Mr. Melton was born at Oglesby on June 20, 1926 to Dorothy (Corle) John Robert Melton. He grew up and received his education in the Oglesby area and was married to Mildred E. Wood on April 8, 1944 in Bartlesville. Mr. Melton served with the United States Army from October 20, 1944 until June 10, 1946, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II. Following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to this area where he and Mrs. Melton made their home all of their married life. Mr. Melton was active as a home builder in the Bartlesville for many years until his retirement. He was active in playing music all of his life and played the guitar with his Bluegrass band known as the Sunset Bluegrass Band and for ten years they played at the Ozark Music Festival in Branson, Missouri. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, he was also active in racing Micro Midget cars in Bartlesville. He was a member of the Spirit Church in Bartlesville.

Mr. Melton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred E. Melton, two sons, W. S. (Bobby) Melton Jr. and wife Julie of the Sunset Lake area and Richard E. Melton of California, one daughter, Judy Hale of the Sunset Lake area, five sisters, Kathleen Blevins of Bartlesville, Darleen Stone of Tulsa, Charleen Bejcek of Collinsville, Lillie Gardner of Bartlesville and Daisy Mathews of Bartlesville, four grandchildren, Robbie Melton of Bartlesville, Joshua Hale of Sunset Lake area, Roseann of Texas and Christina of Bartlesville, several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his parents and one son in infancy, Robert Eugene Melton.
