Janet
was born January 16, 1955, in Bartlesville, OK where she spent her
childhood before
graduating from College High School in 1973. Janet continued her
education at the
University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1977. While at OU she meet her
future husband,
Michael Margul. The two were married June 1977. They made their home in
Dallas
and soon moved to Plano, TX. Janet and Mike were blessed with a
daughter, Lisa, in
1980.
Janet pursued a career in journalism, holding the positions of Lifestyle
Editor at the
Plano Star Courier and Assistant Editor at the McKinney Courier-gazette
before
transitioning to a career as a graphic artist. She owned Weebee Graphics
where she
excelled as a graphic designer.
Janet was very active in the Girl Scouts being Lisa’s Troop leader, GS
cookie chair, founder and director of a GS summer evening camp called
Twilight Hollow. Janet was
a pioneer in the online web communities, particularly in the crafting
world. Janet
brought artists and crafters from all over the world together. She was
an artist, she
excelled in painting and enjoyed rubber stamping.
Janet was an advocate for others, serving on the board of the Samaritan
Inn
homeless shelter, and working with the local Aids population in the
1980’s when it was
all too often a death sentence. years later she was president of her
local chapter of the
National Organization for Women.
Janet enjoyed traveling worldwide, was an avid reader. She lived her
life with
compassion for others, integrity, and when she decided to do something
she went all
in. She had a sense of fun and adventure, was a friend and mentor to
many as she
never met a stranger. She will be missed by the many lives she touched.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Glenn Sue Detter.
She
is
survived by her father, Clyde Detter. Husband, Michael Margul, daughter,
Lisa Margul.
Brother Mike Detter and his wife Alicia, their children Kelsey, Jena and
Lena, their
grandchildren, Ella and Avery. Sister Gay Cooper and husband Lee, their
children
Ashley and Branden, their Grandchildren Kelton and Hudson.
Graveside service is planned for Monday, February 26th at 1 pm, Memorial
Park
Cemetery, Bartlesville.
