James (Jim) Wallace Malone, 84, passed away on Monday,
December 25, in Bartlesville.
Jim Malone was born June 30, 1933, in Tulsa, OK, to Wallace and Inda (Rodgers)
Malone. He graduated from Tulsa’s Will Rogers High School in 1951, then attended
Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, and joined the Navy in 1953. After four years in
the Navy he was discharged in 1957.
Jim returned home to Tulsa where he went to night school at Tulsa University for
3 ½ years and began his lifelong career in retail and customer service. He
started out by working as Assistant Manager of the TG&Y five-and-dime store.
Renberg’s was hiring for Christmas at the Utica Square store - Jim was hired and
later became manager of its men’s department. After four or five years at
Renberg’s, Jim went to Vandevers and came to Bartlesville in 1977 to open the
Bartlesville Vandevers store in Eastland Shopping Center. He worked as manager
at the Bartlesville Vandevers until that store closed, at which time he went to
work for May Brothers in downtown Bartlesville. He worked at May Brothers for 8
to 10 years until that store closed in Dec. 2009. After May Brothers closed, Jim
and Dan Keleher opened Dan’s Formal Wear in the ITIO Building to provide formal
wear to former customers and friends. He managed Dan’s Formal Wear until he
retired.
Survivors include a cousin Jonna Lewis and Gary, and their four children, Lori
Ross, Julie Smith, Stacy Margolis and Kate Lewis, as well as cousin Ken
Halterman and Linda, and their two children Blaire LaVoy and Brooke Matamoros.
