Mr. James Arthur "Jim" Hooker, 87, of Bartlesville, went to be with his Lord & Savior at 6:41 P.M. on Saturday, November 7, 2014 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Hooker will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Town & Country Christian Church in Bartlesville, with Paul Ortiz, his son-in-law and Senior Minister of the Sandusky Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa officiating.

Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the Ceremonial Detail of the James H. Teel American Legion Post # 105. Funeral services and interment are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the Washington County SPCA, 16620 State Highway 123, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74006.

Mr. Hooker was born at Hammond, Indiana on August 25, 1927 to Forney and Mabel (Shehan) Hooker. He lived his early years in Kansas, attending elementary school in rural McPherson, Kansas followed by high school in Chanute, Kansas. Upon graduating from senior high school in 1945 he enlisted in the Navy, serving aboard minesweepers in the South Pacific 1945 through 1946. He received his Honorable Discharge at Norman, Oklahoma in 1946. He entered Chanute Junior College graduating in 1948, then continuing his education at Kansas State College (now Kansas State University). Jim received a BS degree in Architectural Engineering on January 1951. On June 24, 1950 Jim was married to Mary Ann Couch who joined Jim his senior year at Kansas State where she was employed as the Secretary to the Kansas State Sports Publicity Director. In early 1951 he was employed with the Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he served for over 35 years as an architect and structural engineer. At the date of his retirement Jim was in charge of building design for Phillips. After two years of retirement, Jim joined McCrory/Ambler Architects where he was employed for over six years, then began his second retirement. Jim and Mary resided in Dewey from 1953 to 1992 and he served in many community activities: Jaycee officer, chairman of petition to join Dewey's telephone system with Bartlesville, member of committee to extend water to Dewey from Bartlesville, chairman of Dewey Planning Commission, Little League Baseball manager, chairman of Dewey Recreation Program and remained in church activities as a member of the Town & Country Christian Church. Jim was an avid Kansas State Wildcat fan and wore purple with pride.

Mr. Hooker is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hooker, three sons, Steve Hooker, Mike Hooker and wife Ginger, and Greg Hooker and wife Sandy, all of Bartlesville, two daughters, Sharon Ortiz and husband Paul of Tulsa and Linda Robertson and husband Dean of Bartlesville, 11 grandchildren, Matthew Hooker, Jonathan Robertson, Michelle Barnes, Joshua Ortiz, David Hooker, Erik Robertson, Cindy Thomas, Dayla Vaughn, Mackenzie Hooker, Paco Hooker and Alex Hooker and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one other in infancy.
