E.M. "Gene" Harmon, 94, of Bartlesville, passed away on Friday,
June 8, 2018.
Gene was born on March 18, 1924 to parents Andrew Dillard and Laura Lucinda
(Cox) Harmon in Wayside, Oklahoma. Gene joined the US Army Air Force at the age
of 17 during World War II. He was captured and was a POW for sixteen months from
1943 to 1945. He marched over 500 miles during the Black Death March during the
coldest winter in Germany at that time.
Gene married Barbara Mae Clark on March 17, 1950 in Dewey at the First Christian
Church. On March 17, 2018, the couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Gene loved rodeoing. In his younger years, he rode with Slim Pickins and Jim
Shoulders. His passion was horses. He had his children on horses before they
could even walk. He also loved old, classic cars.
Gene was a lifetime member of the DAV, POW and the American Legion of
Bartlesville.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, of the home; daughter Gayle Ann Neher and
husband Billy of Ashdown, Arkansas, two sons Rick and Angie Harmon of Talala,
Oklahoma and Clark Harmon; grandchildren Callie Gene Neher, Ashley Harmon and
fiancé Robert Brumley, Andy Harmon and fiancé Nikki Washeck and Todd Harmon and
wife Samantha; great grandchildren Bryton, Brooke, Ciera, Destiny, Gracie, Gwen
and Crosby; niece Bonnie Maddox and nephew Larry Morrison.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lloyd Harmon and Eldon
Harmon, three sisters Thelma Morrison, Marjorie Brown and Mary “Toots” Waltman
and a grandson Cole William Neher in 2016.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11am at Memorial
Park Cemetery in Bartlesville with Ben Killion officiating.
