DAVIS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Ann was born November 3, 1926, in Bartlesville to Earl Loren DeShazo and Josephine May Ott DeShazo. She was the third of six children and known for her sensitive, kind and loving nature.
When Ann was in the 8th grade, her parents purchased the old Booker Drug Store and moved the family to Dewey to rename the store DeShazo’s Rexall Drugs, which they operated for over 40 years. Her family life revolved around the store, since her parents worked 14 hour days and kept the drugstore open seven days a week. Fortunately, the store was across the street from the Dewey Theater, because many evenings Ann and her brothers and sisters watched films while their parents worked, leading to Ann’s life-long love of films.
After graduating from Dewey High School, Ann attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK, where she was on the swim team. While home on vacation, Ann met Lawrence “Red” Hamilton. He frequented her family’s drugstore since it was close to the Dewey Hotel, where Red lived with his Uncle Billy Hamilton. Red was newly retuned to Dewey after serving in the Army during World War II.
Ann and Red married in 1947, and lived for a few years in Wichita, KS, before returning to Dewey and making their home there. Red was a homebuilder and loved restoring old tractors. He built their home on what is now known as West Durham Road and after a few years, put in a pool since Ann’s love of swimming stayed with her throughout her life. They were both collectors, and shared common interests in road trips, flea markets and filling their home with beautiful antiques.
Ann loved gardening and flowers, and this was reflected in her collections of vintage seed boxes and catalogues. One of Ann’s special collecting interests was her collection of angels. She was a member of the Angel Club and gave many talks to clubs and collectors.
Ann worked for over 30 years at Phillips Petroleum. Ann’s taste and refinement were an asset to Phillips, and she always dressed fashionably and took pride in her career. Before retirement, she was the secretary for corporate services, and her responsibilities included helping with various properties, including Pier 66 in Florida and Stoney Island in New York. After Red bought a small plane and learned to fly, Ann obtained her pilot’s license too. She loved flying but refused to take any passengers up, leaving the sightseeing flights to Red. Although Ann and Red did not have children of their own, they were favorites of their nieces, nephews and Sunday school children, who could count on them to be fun. Ann was an excellent cook, and swim parties, Easter egg hunts, and Fourth of July at their home were great events. For many years, they traveled to Texas to spend Christmas with her sister Nona’s family, whose kids adored their fun-loving and attentive Aunt Annie and Uncle Red.
Ann and Red enjoyed the company of Sam and Ugli, their rescue dogs. Sam, their German Shepherd, could ring the doorbell to alert Ann that he wanted to enter the house. Ann’s last dog companion for the last few year of her life was Little Red, named with a twinkle in her eye, saying “Red wouldn’t mind”.
Ann was a charter member of Town and Country Christian Church and was active in many areas until her health declined. In the final years of her life, Ann was lovingly assisted by her sister Sudi.

Ann is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, the children of her brothers and sisters Donald DeShazo and wife Margaret, Kirk DeShazo and wife Jane, all of Dewey; Nona Pebworth and husband Charles of Fayetteville, AR; Martha Sue (Sudi) and husband Jeff of Copan; the late Earl DeSazo, Jr.; and the late Leon Gordon.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Visitation will be held on Saturday 12-5 and Sunday 12-5 at Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Town and Country Christian Church, 616 NE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Town and Country Christian Church, with Pastor Lanny Smith officiating and Al Wolfe assisting.

Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.

Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Ann’s family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
