Betty Jean (Briggs) Chance passed away on May 23, 2023, at the age of 93. She was born to Alexander Briggs and Elverta Mayne on October 7, 1929, in Barnsdall, Oklahoma.
Betty worked as the executive secretary for Examiner Enterprise for 26 years before retiring in 1995. On October 25, 1952, Betty married James "J.D." Chance. She was very active in her church, Town and Country Christian Church. Betty enjoyed traveling, reading, and watching OU games, but what she enjoyed most was spending time with her family.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Chance; father, Alexander Briggs; mother, Elverta Briggs; and sisters, Ethel Irene Sherman and Alexis May Briggs.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Lisa Truett and husband Casey of Bixby and Deborah “Debby” Carter of Lynnwood, Washington; grandchildren, Melinda Goodwin, Amy Jackson, Lauren Key, Christopher Truett, and Zachary Truett; great grandchildren, Blake, Lily, Tate, Fiona, Samantha, Braxton, Asher, Nolan, Atticus, Brady, and Scarlet; sisters, Berna Deen Kemerling and Billie Marsh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 30, from 9am to 5pm followed by a formal visitation with the family receiving guests from 5pm to 7pm at Stumpff Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, at 1pm at Town and Country Christian Church.
The family wants to thank Suncrest Hospice, Canoe Brook Assisted Living of Catoosa, and Oxford Glen of Owasso for the care given to Betty.
