Joanna E. Bolen, age 88, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2012, in the Forrest Manor Nursing Center, Dewey, Oklahoma.
Joanna Yearout was born on May 6, 1924 in Dewey. She was the daughter of James Yearout and Bessie M. (Bush) Yearout. She grew up in the Dewey and Bartlesville communities. She was a graduate of the Bartlesville High School Class of 1942.
Joanna and Sam E. Bolen were united in marriage on September 9, 1943 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mr. Bolen preceded Joanna in death.
Joanna was a member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. She was also a member of the F.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary 610. For many years, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, crocheting and sewing. She took care of her family and was always happy to babysit her grandkids and other children. Her interests were many, as she also enjoyed camping and watching her grandkids play ball. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; daughter, Janet Bolen; her parents; stepdad, Joe Novak; her siblings, Jake Yearout, Frank Novak and Mary Jo Hain, and son-in-law, Floyd "Podge" Lindersmith.
She is survived by three children, Elaine Lindersmith of Ochelata, Oklahoma, Nina Phillips and her husband, Billy, of Bartlesville, and Ed Bolen also of Bartlesville; grandchildren, Brian Inman and Christy, Stacy Inman and April, Drew Phillips and Janna, Nick Phillips and Lindsey Bolen; great-grandchildren, Chase Inman, Chelsi Inman, Taylor Phillips and Bryce Phillips; sister, Hazel Davis, of Dewey; brothers, Jim Yearout and his wife, Helen, of Bartlesville, Larry Novak and his wife, Carol, of Texas, and Dan Novak and his wife, Andrea, of Bartlesville; special friend, Al Highfield; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial has been established with the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church and donations may be forwarded to 132 S.W. Virginia, Bartlesville, OK 74003. Please note in memory of "Joanna Bolen".
Visitation for Joanna will be held on Sunday, from 1-8:00 p.m. and on Monday, from 9:00 a.m.-Noon, in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 6, at 2:00 p.m. in the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor Wally Thames will be the officiant. Interment will be held immediately following the service in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville.
