Mr. Charles Wilson Blackburn, 89, retiree from Phillips Petroleum Co. and resident of Bartlesville, passed away at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 in Bartlesville.

Private family committal and interment will be directed in the Memorial Park Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8. Full military rites at the graveside will be accorded him by the James H. Teel American Legion Post #105.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church of Bartlesville, with the Rev. Andrew S. Odom, Senior Minister as the officiant. Funeral services are being directed by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established in Wilson's name, and those who wish to honor him in this way may forward their gifts to Boy Scout Troop #3, First Presbyterian Church, 505 SE Dewey, Bartlesville, OK 74003.

Mr. Blackburn will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of The Arnold Moore Funeral Residence where family and friends may call for their visitation on Friday.

Wilson was born in Atchison, Kansas on October 9, 1918. He was the son of Charles Blackburn and Josephine (Livers) Blackburn. Wilson was reared and received his primary and secondary education in the Topeka, Kansas schools. He was graduated with a B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University in 1941, and began his employment with the Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville.

On October 1, 1942 he volunteered for service in the U. S. Army as a Radar Specialist. Serving in the European Theater he helped pioneer the use of radar for close support control for the Air Force. He was honorably discharged on November 15, 1945 as a First Lieutenant and on August 21, 1946 was promoted to Captain, Army Air Corps, U. S. Army. On May 26, 1946 he and Alice Marie Johnson were united in marriage and they made their home in Bartlesville where Wilson had rejoined the Phillips Petroleum Co. He was retired following 39 years of service. During his tenure with Phillips, he had assignments in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, London, Scotland, Idaho Falls, Idaho in addition to Bartlesville.

Survivors are his wife, Alice, of the Bartlesville home; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Padberg and son-in-law, Dr. Richard "Dick" Padberg, DDS of Dixon, New Mexico; two sons, Dr. Charles "Chuck" Blackburn, DDS and daughter-in-law, Terri of Billings, Montana; and David Blackburn and daughter-in-law, Cindy of Holiday Island, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Ben Blackburn of Decatur, Illinois; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Beasom of Claremonte, California; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Blackburn of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. Joyce Dye of Denver, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother; three sisters, Ruth, Margaret and Mary Klein; and two brothers, Bob and Phil.
