Phyllis Jean (Reno) Barr, age 87 and resident of
Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away, on Thursday,
January 21, 2016, surrounded by loving family.
She was born on June 23, 1928 in Gassville,
Arkansas. She was the daughter of W. E. "Ted" Reno
and Fancheon (Bell) Reno. She grew up in Phillips,
Texas where she received her early education. She
loved her time in Phillips where she was very active
in school and socially. She continued to attend her
class and town reunions until recently.
After graduating high school, she attended Oklahoma
University and then Texas Tech University. She
completed her Bachelors degree in Education at West
Texas State University.
On February 22, 1948, Phyllis and William E. "Bill"
Barr were united in marriage in Phillips, Texas and
they were blessed with four children. During Bill's
career with Phillips Petroleum Company, Bill held a
number of international positions which allowed them
to travel to many exotic places around the world.
Phyllis and Bill celebrated 64 years of marriage
before he preceded her in death.
Phyllis was a committed teacher and principal for
many years. She was a gracious hostess and supporter
of many civic organizations. She was an active
member of First Baptist Church, Kappa Kappa Gamma,
the Bartlesville Symphony, and Hillcrest Country
Club. She enjoyed bridge and was active in many
social organizations. Others considered her to be a
beautiful, elegant and gracious woman.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife and a
wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
friend to all.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, Bill, in March of 2012; and her son, Thomas
Michael "Mike" Barr, in February of 2014.
She is survived by son, Ken Barr and his wife, Nanci,
of Richardson, Texas; son, John Barr and his wife,
Virginia Kibler, of Parker, Colorado; and daughter,
Tricia Barr Derryberry of Liberty, Missouri; seven
grandchildren: Renee Wensel and her husband, Duke;
Kim Frueh and her husband, Jason; Amber Derryberry
and her husband, Dave Warnke; Nicki Highmark and her
husband, Chris; Mandi Derryberry; Jason Barr, and
Rachael Barr; four great-grandchildren: Houston Ross
IV, Faeryn Frueh, and Logan and Alex Warnke; two
sisters, June Hamilton and Sherry Armstrong; and a
host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear
friends.
In Phyllis' memory and honor, donations may be made
to the charity of your choice.
Services were held Saturday, January 23, at 1:00 PM
in the First Baptist Church, Bartlesville. Rev.
James Biesiadecki was the officiant.
Interment
followed the service in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Arnold
