Ruby “Nanny” Jean Werts, 86, longtime resident of Bartlesville died Friday, October 11th in Bartlesville.
Nanny was born the daughter of William and Mattie Elizabeth (Fox) Cummins in Bartlesville, on July 28, 1927. At a young age, Nanny and her family moved to Watts, OK, and when she was twelve, to Copan, OK. She was united in marriage with Robert William Werts on February 15, 1945, in Nowata, OK. Ruby worked at the Dairy Queen, TG&Y, and retired from NBC (Name Brand Clothing). Once retired she took up ironing in her home for many years. After 53 years of marriage, Robert preceded her in death in 1998.
Ruby was always known as Nanny. She was proud of the fact that she and her sister were able to sing on the local radio station while she played her guitar. Nanny loved riding horses and would practice trick riding as a child. Her two most beloved pets were her cat of 22 years Muffin and her dog Teddi Bear. Nanny loved her family and time spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids; she would often take them on shopping trips that ended with a meal at the Olive Garden.
Ruby is survived by one son Ron Werts of Bartlesville; two granddaughters Sonya Kay Magana and Brad of Bartlesville and Rebecca Morey and Luke of Tulsa; five great grandchildren Joshua Magana, Sean Morey, Thomas Morey, Rylan Cochran and Dylan Cochran; as well as two brothers William Cummins Jr. and Sue of Dewey, and Lester Cummins and Carrie of Dewey; one great godson John Paul “JP” Hicks; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, one daughter Roberta Jean Perrigo, seven brothers and two sisters.
Ruby’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, (918-534-3030), 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Relay for Life of N.O.W, 4110 S 100th E. Ave Suite 101, Tulsa, Ok 74146.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at the Dewey Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.
