Glenn Edward May, 90, of Dewey died Wednesday in Dewey.
Glenn was born the son of Hubert H. and Ella Mae (McBee) May on Sept. 20, 1924, in Dewey. He was raised and educated in his hometown, graduating from Dewey High School in 1943. Glenn was inducted into the U.S. Navy, received his basic training in San Diego and served on a mine sweeper as a sonar operator in the Pacific. His group received a commendation for their part in a rescue mission. After his honorable discharge he returned home to start his career with Phillips Petroleum Co., retiring in 1985, with more than 35 years of faithful service. Glenn was united in marriage with Shirley L. Woodard on Dec. 16, 1955, in Dewey, and they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage.
Glenn was an active member of the Dewey First Baptist Church. After his retirement he loved to travel with Shirley and they made many memorable trips overseas and throughout the U.S. He was passionate about fishing, music and Oklahoma football. The family was blessed with his woodworking talents which he used to make furniture and toys for his children and grandchildren. His memory will live on in his generous acts of love.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife Shirley of the home; three children, Glennella Doss and Don of Tulsa, Bruce E. May of Tulsa, and Karen McDonald of Edmond; one brother Gene May and Shirley of Grove; five grandchildren, Kyle Byers, Chris Byers, Dustin Doss, Jacob McDonald and Kathleen McDonald; and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Glenn’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Sunday, Aug. 2, from 3-5 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at the Dewey First Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Military honors will be provided by the James H. Teel American Legion Post 105 Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.
