DAVIS FAMILY
FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)
Velda Naydene Wilson of Copan died Friday in Bartlesville, after 83
years of living well, working hard, traveling often and deeply loving
those around her.
Velda was born the daughter of Jesse Virgil and Edith Maude (Hamblin)
Shadwick on February 26, 1933, in Goodman, MO. She was raised and
educated in the area, graduating from Goodman High School in 1951. Her
older sister, Ruth Graham and husband Harold, provided a loving home to
Velda in town during high school, enabling her to complete her
education. Velda met Bob Wilson at the restaurant she worked at in
Goodman, and after some time she agreed to a date. They were united in
marriage on September 29, 1950, in Bentonville, AR. They made their home
in Goodman for a short time. Velda’s brother encouraged them to move to
Dewey and Bob found employment at the Dewey Cement Plant in May of 1952.
They eventually settled in Copan where they built their home in July
1960 and have enjoyed it ever since.
Velda had a strong work ethic and managed to keep a beautiful home while
often working two or more jobs at the same time. She worked at Jane
Phillips Memorial Hospital for 19 years, as well as at local doctors’
offices. She also worked for David Smith Appraisals, plus various other
jobs to keep herself busy. She kept working until two years ago when she
decided to finally retire.
Her children and grandchildren were her true passion, and even though
she loved to work she found plenty of time to spend with them. Velda
enjoyed the beautiful yard Bob kept and the many flowers and vegetables
he planted year after year. They had a place on Grand Lake that they
enjoyed with the family and spent many cherished times out on the boat.
She collected glass and chickens, including one special rooster. Velda
also found time to lunch and shop with her favorite girlfriends. Bob and
Velda enjoyed many memorable trips to Las Vegas. She will be dearly
missed by many, especially her beloved family.
Velda is survived by her loving husband Bob of the home; two children,
Connie Lee Wilson and Dan McCollough of Copan, Bo and Rachelle Wilson of
Bartlesville; four grandchildren, Chris Hale of Bartlesville, Kerry Hale
Laurent and Elliot of Dublin, CA, Colin Wilson of Stillwater, and
Spencer Wilson of Oklahoma City; two great grandchildren Jordan Laurent
and Elizabeth Laurent; as well as three sisters, Agatha Streeter of
Craig, CO, Dixie June Weston and Bill of Goodman, MO, and Peggy Haslam
of St. George, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four
brothers, Bill, Bob, Jerry and Jesse Max Shadwick, and one sister, Ruth
Graham.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers
memorials may be made to The Journey Home, 3406 SE Kentucky Street,
Bartlesville, OK 74006.
Velda’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home,
918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from
6-8 p.m.
Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis
