DAVIS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

William Orrell Taggart, 75, of Warsaw, MO, and former longtime resident of Dewey, died Sunday in Warsaw with his loving family by his side.

Bill was born the son of Cecil James Sr. and Clarice Bell (Couch) Taggart on October 24, 1941, in Bartlesville, OK. He was raised in Washington County, OK, in Ochelata and Bartlesville before the family bought his grandparents’ farm north of Dewey and where he lived until 2007. Bill graduated from College High in 1961 and went on to study auto mechanics at Okmulgee VO Tech graduating in 1965. He started his career with Ford Motor Cars in downtown Bartlesville and then Russ Rogers Chevrolet before landing at the Nowata Ford dealership where he worked for many years.
Bill was an active member of First Baptist Church in Bartlesville, OK where he helped teach Sunday School to preschool children for 25 years. He moved his membership to Rose Hill Baptist Church, Dewey, OK and transferred his membership to Racket Lake Baptist Church, Racket, Mo when he moved to Warsaw, Mo. He also looked forward to the Tuesday Bible Studies done in his home. Bill followed his calling to serve others when his nephew joined Cub Scouts and moved onto Boy Scouts. In all Bill served 20 years as a scout leader who was faithful to take his boys camping monthly and oftentimes they camped on Bill’s family farm where the young men had many memorable adventures fishing in the pond, crossing the concrete dam and playing in the fields and streams. Bill took the scouts to summer camp yearly and helped many of the boys earn the money needed to camp, attend 3 national jamborees and eventually achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Later in life, Bill worked for the Salvation Army where he continued to serve youth by driving the van and working in the thrift store. Just before he retired in 2001 Bill was the assistant manager at the Circle K in Dewey.
Once retired, Bill, with his sister Carole and their mother traveled the United States and Canada extensively. They traversed the Lewis and Clark Trail, making their way up the Alcan trail and spent approximately six months in Alaska over two visits. Bill loved camping and nature, he took many guided fishing tours and caught many different local fish, as well as a 55 pound Halibut, a 30 pound King Salmon and an octopus. They visited the glaciers and camped in many campsites where bears, moose and great horned owls would make regular appearances. They were able to enjoy their travels until his mother’s health started to fail. In January of 2007 Carole bought Reel and Trigger Resort in Warsaw and the family moved with her to help take on the new venture. These were great years for Bill, he made many picnic tables and some of the furniture used in the cabins. But most of all he loved visiting with the guests and spending time with them. A hobby Bill loved was creating beautiful art using counted cross stitch patterns for his family. He also made the frames for his pictures. His completed pictures have been valued from $300 - $1,000. Bill's favorite subject for his pictures was wildlife. He was true to his scouting heritage till the end, taking an active interest in the youth and encouraging them to stay in scouting. Bill will be dearly missed and will be greatly remembered by the hundreds of boys that he showed how to be men.

Bill is survived by his sister Carole L. Keck, his nephew J. Russell Keck, his niece Angela Cade (husband Paul & sons Jacob & Caleb), his great nephew Joshua James Keck and his wife Britney and their 3 sons Eric, Owen and Nate, his great niece Meaghan Danielle Keck and his adopted family Terry & Lisa Saldeen plus numerous cousins.

Bill is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and one brother Cecil James Taggart, Jr...
