Bartlesville - John Alden Shambles Sr., 89, of rural Bartlesville, died Tuesday in Bartlesville.
 

Visitation will be held on Monday from 10-8, at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Comforting Hands Hospice, 1366 SE Washington Blvd. Ste. A, Bartlesville, OK 74006.

Services will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.

John Alden Shambles, was born May 3, 1932 and passed away September 14, 2021.

John was born in Estella, OK to Ollie and Leora (Smith) Shambles. He was raised on a farm on Sand Creek, west of Bartlesville. He attended Highland school, a one room country school west of Bartlesville. He served in the Korean war as a United States Marine. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps he went to work for the Gas Service Company in Bartlesville. He married Jennie Lucille Truitt on October 8, 1954. He retired from the Gas Service company after 42 years.

John heard the gospel and made his choice to follow the teachings of Jesus and was faithful to his choice until his passing.

He also was quite the entrepreneur. He raised cattle, owned and operated two Gulf gas service stations in Bartlesville for several years as well as performed stone mason work and sold sandstone, had a furniture auction and also a used furniture and appliance store. He also owned and managed several rental properties and several other endeavors. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, raising farm animals and visiting with just about anyone.

He is survived by his wife Jennie, one daughter Joni (Shambles) White and Tom, four sons, John Shambles Jr. and Cheryl, Mitch Shambles, Jared Shambles and Tabby, and Jason Shambles all of Bartlesville, as well as 12 grand-children and 15 great grandchildren, and two sisters Jane (Shambles) Groover of California and Sally (Shambles) Radebaugh of AZ.

He was proceeded in death by an infant daughter Rebecca Jo Shambles, his parents Ollie and Leora Shambles, two brothers Robert (Bob) Shambles and Albert Shambles, three sisters, Eva (Shambles) Oneil of AZ, Opal (Shambles) Marshal of Bartlesville, and Pauline (Shambles) Holt of Bartlesville.
