DAVIS FAMILY
FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)
Larry Monroe Selby, 65, of Grove, was in Tulsa Sunday when he went to be
with his Lord and Risen Savior after a two-year battle with cancer.
Larry lived a life of love, laughter and purpose – as a husband, father,
son, brother, and avid fisherman.
Larry was born the son of Buddy Larry and Norma Jean (Meek) Selby on
March 2, 1953, in Kansas City, KS. While he was an infant, Larry’s
family moved to Bartlesville, then Dewey where he attended school,
graduating from Dewey High School in 1971. At a young age his mother met
and married Joe Smith who Larry considered to be just like a father to
him and loved him dearly. Even as a child, Larry loved to fish and it
was a hobby he continued throughout his life. As a young man Larry had
cars he slicked up and ran fast. Larry was lucky enough to be set up on
a blind date with Mary Cummins and they quickly fell in love and married
on Nov. 24, 1972, in Bartlesville. Growing up he worked at a filling
station downtown and for Ray’s Thrift T Wise before starting his 37 year
career with Phillips in the mail room and retiring in 2009 from Chevron
Phillips at the Research & Technology Center. In 2010 Larry and Mary
moved to Grove to enjoy the lake life.
Larry loved the Lord and lived a faith-filled life. He shared his faith
with those who would listen and oftentimes uplifted them when they were
down. He loved to make people laugh and was always willing to give a
helping hand. Mary and Larry loved to sit on their deck where he would
identify the many different boats that were passing by. He had a special
relationship with his son and they worked on many construction projects
together through the years. Some might say his partner-in-crime would be
his brother-in-law Darrell because if you saw one, the other wasn’t too
far away. Over the years he touched so many lives and will be greatly
missed by all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Mary of the home; son Jason Monroe
of Broken Arrow; two brothers, Mike Selby and Linda of Copan, and Thomas
Selby of Bartlesville; one sister Jill McGehee and Bobby of Dibble, OK;
sisters in law Freda Evans of Bartlesville, and Barbara Lunsford and
Darrell of Bartlesville; as well as several nieces, nephews, great
nieces and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded by his parents,
Norma and HJ Smith, and Buddy and Karen Selby, and brother in law John
R. Evans Sr.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 10-8 and Friday, 10-12, at Davis
Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey.
In

Hwy. 123, Bartlesville, OK 74003, or to the Boys and Girls Club of
