Jim was born on November 6, 1925 to Carl Monroe & Edith Mary (Pope) Murphy in Chelsea, OK. He was raised in Oklahoma but the family moved back & forth from Oklahoma to Omaha, NE. for work. He married Ollie M. Keller in 1948 in Nowata, Oklahoma & moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he worked in a coffee factory called Paxton Gallagher’s making “Butternut Coffee”, then moved back to Oklahoma 1954. Then he went to work at Reda Pump where he stayed until retirement in 1985. He was very devoted to his job & raising his family. He always worked hard & most of the time at 2 jobs to provide for his family. He was very sentimental & dearly loved children, especially his grandchildren & great grandchildren. It’s been told, sometimes the neighborhood kids would come to the door and ask if Jim could come out & play with them. He was tenacious & never gave up. You could say he was a workaholic. He also enjoyed several kinds of recreation, which included reading History & non fiction & was a fast reader. All kinds of music & would set & listen to music for hours to relax. Camping, boating, water skiing & hunting, which he spent many years annually hunting for Elk with his cousin & his cousin’s son’s in Colorado & hunting pheasant in Kansas & Nebraska & dearly loved fishing. He & a dear friend of his would go to Toledo Bend, TX every year to fish for Crappie or Bass & his grandson Troy, took him on a trip to Canada & Florida to fish, which was very special to him. He & his family traveled to all 50 states & he saw that his family had an annual vacation, usually in a recreational vehicle of some type. After retirement he also took many trips with his cousins from Omaha, NE. He also raised cattle in his spare time & baled hay with his son-in-law Ken in the summer, which he enjoyed doing, along with raising a huge garden. He raised enough garden to feed the family and the whole neighborhood. Prior to getting married he lived around Coody’s Bluff, OK where he started work at an early age helping in the harvest for his neighbors. During WW II he worked in an aircraft factory in Tulsa, OK. and because he was unable to get a proper education he got his GED just so he could say he had.
