On, Friday, January 29, Brooks "Dewayne" Moore, age 82, departed this world to rest in Heaven after a long illness. His final days were spent in LakeView {Memory Care) at Green Country Village in Bartlesville, OK and at The Journey Home in Dewey, OK.
Dewayne was born on June 14, 1938 in Bridgeport, West Virginia, to Thoburn
Brooks Moore and Kathryn Margaret Putnam Moore. The family moved to Arkansas and
later to Kansas City, KS. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School
and worked in Kansas City for IBM. Later he worked for Phillips Petroleum
Company and was transferred to Bartlesville, OK to work in the IT Department of
Phillips as a computer programmer/analyst for 29 years, retiring in 1999.
Dewayne married Sharon Ann McMillian in 1959, and together they raised their
three daughters, Cathy, Beth Ann, and Jackie. They were members of Eastern
Heights Baptist Church in Bartlesville. Sharon predeceased him in 1996.
In 1998 Dewayne married Adele Berry Hitchcock, and the two spent many happy
years traveling the world. He often said he'd like to go back to Tahiti "on a
one-way ticket!" They made their home in Osage County where they cultivated
roses and provided birdhouses for purple martin nests.
Dewayne was active in Habitat for Humanity, serving several years as treasurer.
He was an excellent woodworker and stained-glass artist. Two of his
stained-glass windows are in the doors of the Baptistry at Disciples Christian
Church in Bartlesville where he and Adele are members.
Dewayne is survived by his wife, Adele, daughters Cathy Martin, Beth Ann Razo,
and Jackie Anderson, grandchildren, Amanda Martin, Michael Peoples, Dean
Peoples, Jonathan Buzbee, Carol Buzbee and several great-grandchildren. He is
also survived by stepchildren Collin Hitchcock {Lara) and Amber Hitchcock.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon, his parents and his brother Henry.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, February 4 at 6:00 to 8:00 at Stumpff Funeral Home, 1600 Washington Blvd, Bartlesville. Please be prepared to wear a mask and observe social distancing at the visitation.
A graveside service at Dewey Cemetery on US Hwy 75 north of Dewey, Oklahoma will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disciples Christin Church, 5800 SE Douglas Lane, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74006 or The Journey Home, 900 Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
