Leon R. Martin, 76, a long-time resident of Dewey,
Oklahoma, died at 1 a.m. on Monday, November 23, at
the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville,
Oklahoma following a brief illness.
He was a native of Stuart, Virginia and grew up in
Bassett, Virginia. Initially, he was employed at the
Bassett Furniture Company prior to entering Milligan
College at Elizabethton, Tennessee where he received
a degree in ministerial studies. He then began a
ministry that spanned more than 50 years in the
Christian Church, serving congregations in Mountain
City, Tennessee, Shady Valley, Tennessee, White
Mills, Kentucky, Joplin, Missouri and Dewey,
Oklahoma. At the time of his death he was serving as
minister to the First Christian Church in Barnsdall,
Oklahoma.
He was a man totally dedicated to his ministry who
touched thousands of lives for good throughout his
years of service.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Martin in
1995, his beloved wife of 45 years, Ann, in 2003,
and a brother Jerry Martin of St. Louis, Missouri in
2011.
He is survived by a granddaughter, Amanda Martin, of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Judy Prillaman
and her husband Kennis of Salem, Virginia; and a
daughter-in-law Cathleen ""Cathy"" Martin of
Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Also surviving are one niece
and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November
30, at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church in
Barnsdall with ministers Howard Taylor and Aaron
Lawrence officiating. A private family burial
service will follow at the Dewey Cemetery in Dewey,
Oklahoma.
The Martin family is being served by the Arnold
Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home in Bartlesville,
