James (Jay) Demcy Robertson, 88, of Dewey passed away at 6:25 PM on Monday, September 14, 2015 in Bartlesville, OK.

He was born in Pershing, OK on June 1, 1927, to the late Johnny Alvin and Pearlie Ava (Smith) Robertson. Jay was raised and educated in Osage County in Pershing, Nelagony, Barnsdall, Gray Horse and Fairfax. He joined the U.S. Navy in April 1945, trained in San Diego and was sent to Alameda Navel Station in San Francisco. There he met and married Vicky Slocum on August 9, 1946. They made their first home in Fairfax, OK.

In 1959, Jay founded Jay's Automotive, located in Dewey at that time. He later moved the business to Bartlesville where it continues to be a family owned /operated business. Jay was a true innovator and problem solver. In the 1950's, when automotive testing equipment was hard to come by, Jay developed his own test equipment. He also built the first oscilloscope to be used in the area for automotive diagnostics. Dealerships would seek his help in diagnosing problems and racers would seek his help in fine-tuning their ignition and fuel system for ultimate performance. Jay always loved working with cars. Later, he became as passionate about working with wood and was considered a master craftsman and cabinetmaker.

Jay also loved people. He always greeted those around him with a warm smile and a positive and encouraging word and made you feel as though you were the most important part of his day.

Jay is survived by his wife, Vicky, of the home, three daughters, Darlene Maggard and husband Bill, Shirley Houchins and husband Eddy, Leta Forester and husband Paul, two sons, Michael Robertson Sr. and wife Brenda and Dean Robertson and wife Linda, 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, one sister, Joann Farmer and husband Eddie. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Arra Marie Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at First Baptist Church Dewey, 300 E 10th Street in Dewey, OK.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rivercross Hospice, 2301 SE Washington Blvd. Suite C, Bartlesville, OK 74006
