DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)
Henry Joe Johnson, 71, of Copan, died Saturday in Copan.
Henry, or Joe as he was known, was born the son of Henry Madison and Victoria
“Hendrix” Johnson on July 27, 1944, in Barnsdall, OK. He was raised and educated
in Nelagoney, OK. During his school years he played basketball, one of the few
team sports offered. Joe was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart
Jean Williams on Sept. 11, 1962, in Bartlesville. They made their home in Dewey
raising their four children before moving to Copan. Joe worked for Coca-Cola as
a route driver for many years before joining National Zinc as a mechanic. He
retired in 1991 shortly after receiving his 25 year pin for faithful service.
Joe’s passions in life centered on his children and grandchildren. He was active
in his kids’ school activities including Ag. and coaching ball. Jean recalls
never needing to call a repairman for anything - Joe just understood how
everything worked and could always come up with a fix. Joe passed on his love
for fishing to his children and grandchildren, often taking several at a time to
his favorite spots. He was intelligent and excelled at games, almost never
losing a game of dominoes or pitch. But he was never serious and was a jokester
with a sense of humor that was loud and blunt. Joe was fun to be around and he
was able to keep his spirits up to the very end. He will be dearly missed by all
who knew and enjoyed Joe’s company.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Jean of the home; four children, Danny
Johnson and Crystle of Dewey, Dee Anna Hawkins of Copan, Tammy Johnson of Copan,
and Larry Johnson and Dixie of Copan; two brothers, Orville Johnson and Olive of
Dewey, and Freddie Johnson of Nowata; three sisters, Joyce Reames of Oklahoma
City, Henryetta Beal of Bartlesville, and Wanda Larmare of Ramona; 10
grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren plus one on the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Bill and Bobby, and two
sisters Louise Cummins and Lois Notley.
Joe’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home,
