STUMPFF FUNERAL HOME
BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

John Ray James, 75, of Dewey, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, July 17, 2019.

John was born October 26, 1943 in Lawton, Oklahoma to parents Noel Ray and Ellen Ann (Meek) James. He graduated from Dewey High School in 1962. John then attended NSU in Tahlequah where he received his Associates Degree.
John married the love of his life Darlene (Ward) James on August 1, 1975. They were married for 44 years. During that time, one constant source of pride was their daughter, Sami.
He worked for Aetna Financial, Plaza Bank, several oil businesses and owned private businesses.
Sami brought joy to John like nothing else. A constant sight in Dewey was John and Darlene following Sami's adventures but especially her softball career. One of his many claims to fame is he never missed one of her softball games. From little league and summer ball to Dewey Lady Bulldogger Softball. But it didn't end there. John still never missed a game as Sami's career continued at NEO and the University of Arkansas.
John is known as a successful breeder and racer of horses. John and his horses have won numerous awards and races across the country.
The absolute best days of Johns life were the days his grandchildren were born. They were his pride and joy!

John was preceded in death by his mother and father.

John is survived by his wife Darlene, of the home; daughter Sami Duffield and husband Zach of Owasso; grandchildren Jaxson, Jesi and Jordi Duffield; one brother; several aunts and uncles; many cousins and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Dewey Lions Club at 300 E Angus Ave Dewey, Oklahoma 74029.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stumpff Funeral Home.

Funeral services will then be Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 10:00 am, also at Stumpff Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Dewey Cemetery.
