DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)
Bill Davis, 70, of Dewey, died suddenly Saturday in Bartlesville.
William Davis was born the son of Randolph and Wilma June (Tresler)
Davis on December 19, 1947, in Independence, KS. Though Bill’s early
days were not well documented we know his father was a pastor and Bill
accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at a young age and throughout his
life volunteered his talents at church. Bill graduated from Marlow High
School in 1966 where he recently took a trip back to reconnect with
friends at his 50th class reunion.
On June 5, 1982, Bill was united in marriage with Ruby Marie, and they
enjoyed 36 years of loving marriage. Bill worked as a custodian most of
his life and was forced to retire early due to his bad knee.
Bill’s passions in life centered on the Lord. Ruby, a close second,
received all of his attention. Together, they enjoyed short road trips
to visit family and were homebodies in recent years watching his
favorite football teams OU and the Dallas Cowboys. Bill filled his free
time by serving others: Bill mowed the church lawn, his neighbors’ lawns
and others who couldn’t do it for themselves - most of the yard work he
did out of kindness. He worked in Ruby’s garden and after his knee
replacement when he could no longer mow his own yard, Bill would give
careful instructions to his grandson on how it should be done. Bill
loved his church family at First Baptist Church of Dewey and faithfully
doing all his church duties. He had a special door he watched where he
could greet visitors and friends and his main duty of ringing the bell,
which he looked forward to. His kind heart and generous spirit shined
through in all he did.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Ruby of the home; four stepchildren,
Connie Finn and Leonard of Tahlequah, Kat Catalona of Tahlequah, Jackie
Weaver of Vera, and Joyce Griggs of Bartlesville; and numerous
grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his
parents and one step son JD Blevins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10-8 at the Davis Family
Funeral Home - Dewey Chapel.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, September 7, at the
Dewey Cemetery, with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Services are under
the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey
Chapel.
