BARTLESVILLE
EXAMINER-ENTERPRISE
BARTLESVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)
Elizabeth "Jane" Cameron, a life-long resident of Copan,
Oklahoma, walked through the Heavenly gates on Tuesday,
November 14, 2017.
Elizabeth Jane Walker was born on March 5, 1951 in
Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of James Walker
and Jessie (Baker) Walker. She grew up and received her
education in the Copan community, and was a graduate of
Copan High School.
Jane and Ronald Cameron were united in marriage in Copan on
March 6, 1971. To this union, two children were born, Becky
and Shane. Jane and Ronald were married for 46 years prior
to her death.
Jane was a homemaker but she was also very interested in
genealogy research. She spent over 30 years traveling the
Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma,
Arkansas and Kansas doing genealogy research and
verification. She spent many hours walking through
cemeteries, sitting in museums and back rooms of court
houses diligently digging and exploring the past. Her main
focus was Cherokee genealogy and history, solving riddles of
the past and finding family roots for her family and for
friends. She also got to travel several routes of the Trail
of Tears, bringing to life the tragedies of her family's
past.
Jane's grandchildren were the joy of her life - their close
presence always kept her smiling and happy – her love was
not comparable. She was loving and forgiving to a fault,
always.
Jane is survived by her husband, Ron Cameron, of the family
home; two children, Becky Cameron, of Copan, and Shane
Cameron and his wife, Dionna, also of Copan; five
grandchildren, MacKenzie Pontius, Walker Reneau, Dalton
Pontius, Katelyn Cameron and JT Cameron; brother, Ed
Burkhart and his wife, Marilyn, of Rock Springs, Wyoming;
sister, Jimmie Sue Fecht and her husband, Willie Fecht, of
Lake Jackson, Texas; her best friend, Sandy Custer; plus
numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jessie
Walker; and her sister, Cynthia Lowe.
