Mr. Leonard E. “Lennie” Baker, resident of Dewey, died on Monday,
November 6, 2017, in Bartlesville.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 10,
2017, at the Tuxedo Baptist Temple Church in Bartlesville. Interment
will be in the Dewey Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral
Home & Crematory.
A Memorial Service will also be held on a later date.
Leonard, or “Lennie” as most people knew him, was born on January 4,
1942 in Atkins, Arkansas to Johnnie and Berdie (Smith) Baker. He was a
self- taught and very accomplished musician, playing many instruments,
opening for world famous talent, and even recording an album of his own
compositions. More than anything, Lennie was a family man. Family was
his everything.
Lennie graduated from high school in Lenapah, Oklahoma and joined the
Air Force soon after. He was married to Charlotte K. Baker in Dewey, OK.
in September of 1970. Charlotte preceded him in death in March of 1997.
He was later married to Robbie M. (Ford) on May 2, 2008 in Hawaii.
Lennie started his first band while he was in the Air Force. He later
joined Ronnie and the Miracles after returning from the service. He also
played in a band called the Gigsters, who opened for the Temptations and
Tanya Tucker. Lennie wrote and recorded his first album in 1998,
entitled “Wanted”. The album was dedicated to his girlfriend at the time
who is currently his wife, Robbie. Lennie played a lot of music, but
people especially loved hearing him play “Purple Rain”, “Mustang Sally”,
“Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”, and “I Finally Made It”, a song he
wrote for his album “Wanted”
Lennie is survived by his wife Robbie Baker of the home in Dewey, his
two sons Leonard Baker Jr. and wife Sarah of Edmond, OK and Dustin
Beisley and wife Marsha; his daughters, Veronica Williams of Pensacola,
Florida, Shanae Stroud and husband Chris of Bartlesville, and Lacy
Beisley of the home; twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He was also survived by brothers Lloyd Baker and wife Penny of Seattle,
WA and his sisters Christine Baker, Geraldine Wilson, Cali Baker, Jewel
Baker, and Elma Downing.
In addition to his wife Charlotte; he was
preceded in death by his parents; sisters Dolly Baker, Hati Baker, Ruth
Banner, Augusta Baker and Claudia Baker; and his nieces and nephews
Beverly Knox, James Bonnerman, Michael Baker, and Dewayne Knox.
