Leonard, or “Lennie” as most people knew him, was born on January 4, 1942 in Atkins, Arkansas to Johnnie and Berdie (Smith) Baker. He was a self- taught and very accomplished musician, playing many instruments, opening for world famous talent, and even recording an album of his own compositions. More than anything, Lennie was a family man. Family was his everything.
Lennie graduated from high school in Lenapah, Oklahoma and joined the Air Force soon after. He was married to Charlotte K. Baker in Dewey, OK. in September of 1970. Charlotte preceded him in death in March of 1997. He was later married to Robbie M. (Ford) on May 2, 2008 in Hawaii. Lennie started his first band while he was in the Air Force. He later joined Ronnie and the Miracles after returning from the service. He also played in a band called the Gigsters, who opened for the Temptations and Tanya Tucker. Lennie wrote and recorded his first album in 1998, entitled “Wanted”. The album was dedicated to his girlfriend at the time who is currently his wife, Robbie. Lennie played a lot of music, but people especially loved hearing him play “Purple Rain”, “Mustang Sally”, “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay”, and “I Finally Made It”, a song he wrote for his album “Wanted”
