DAVIS FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
DEWEY, WASHINGTON CO, OK
(permission granted)

Everitt Lee Allen Sr., 87, longtime Oglesby resident, died Tuesday in his Oglesby home.

Everitt was born the son of Ernest Buford and Ethel Mae (Holbrook) Allen on Nov. 20, 1929 in Picher, OK. Young Everitt grew up around the area’s many coal mines and loved playing on the hills produced by the strip mining technique. Everitt was intending to meet a young lady at the Crown Drugstore in Bartlesville but as luck would have it, he met Joyce first and they were married on Nov. 6, 1947. They made their home in Dewey for five years before moving to Oglesby to their current home 60 years ago. Everitt worked for the cement plant for many years before starting his 37 year career with National Zinc. At the time he retired, he was manager of the lead department. After 65 years of loving marriage Joyce preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 2012, less than five years ago.

Everitt and Joyce enjoyed many things together. They operated a kennel and bred hundreds of puppies that found happy homes throughout the state and beyond. They travelled extensively together in their fifth wheel and enjoyed camping. For 25 years they hosted the Shade Tree Pickin’ held out in their pasture. Everitt was a hard worker and a faithful provider - after work he cut firewood to use and to sell, averaging 50 ricks a year. When he wasn’t working, Everitt loved to run around, visit friends and reminisce about the good ol’ days. His Boston terriers were his best friends “By Gory” and he loved them dearly. He hunted, fished and was famous for his homegrown stories. He will be dearly missed.

Everitt is survived by his two children, Everitt Allen Jr. of Austin, TX, and Susan Morgan of Glenpool, OK; three grandchildren, Jason Morgan and Barbie of Oglesby, Bryan Allen of FL, and Crystal Larson and Brandon of Sapulpa; five great grandchildren, Emma Larson, Ella Larson, Bryson Allen, Whitney Hall and Chris Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Everitt’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Friday, June 23, from 3-5 p.m.

Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.

Online condolences and remembrances may be shared with Everitt’s family at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
