Helen Wynell Whitfield
August 28, 1938 - June 28, 2025

Helen Wynell Whitfield passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Owasso at the age of 86. She was born August 28, 1938, in Baker, FL to Peter Mancel and Effie (Mount) Griffith. Helen attended Baker Public Schools her entire childhood. She graduated from Baker HS in 1956; she lettered in basketball all four years. Helen attended Karenza Gilfoy School of Nursing in Jackson MS for one semester. She married Gene Whitfield, January 27, 1957, in Tulsa OK.

Upon moving to Tulsa, Helen worked in the X-Ray Department at Hillcrest Hospital, then as a homemaker with three young boys. She and Gene moved to Collinsville, OK in 1964. She returned to work at Hillcrest for a period, then went to work in 1970 for the Tulsa City-County Health Department until retiring in 1991. That same year, she and Gene moved to Baker FL where they resided until moving back to Collinsville in 2012.

Helen loved to cook/bake. She was also an amazing seamstress. She was the President of the Baker Garden Club, as well as a member of the Southern Baptist Women's Mission Union (WMU). Helen taught Sunday School, was active in the church choir and working in Vacation Bible School at the churches where she was a member. She was an avid reader, instilling that same "love of books" into her young sons with frequent trips to the Collinsville Library.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Whitfield; parents, Peter Mancel and Effie Mount Griffith; Siblings, Meg Sasser, Don Griffith, Dorothy ("Dot") Griffith, Douglas Griffith, Wyndell Griffith, and Jack Griffith.

Helen is survived by her sons, Keith and wife Dana, Kelly and wife Amy, Chris and wife Pam; grandchildren, Ryon Whitfield, Alex Whitfield, Paige Whitfield Wickersham, Claire Whitfield, Cody Whitfield, Janie McCord, Jackie Bentley, Billy Joe Bentley; great-grandchildren, Tallulah Silcox, Olive Whitfield, Reese Wickersham, Matthew Whitfield, Millie Grace Whitfield, Dacia, Destiny, Chloe, Paige, Bailey, Hailey, Maykala, and Azia.

A graveside service will be held for Helen on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:00 am at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville, with Dr. Tim Prock officiating.
