E. E. "Gene" Whitfield
November 20, 1931 - December 12, 2014
E.E. "Gene" Whitfield, of Collinsville, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014 in Tulsa, OK. He was 83. Gene was born on November 20, 1931 in Jasper, AL to his parents, Elisha and Clara (McCullar) Whitfield. He served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He met Helen Griffith while he was stationed in Pensacola, FL. They married on January 26, 1957, and in their 58 years together they raised 3 sons. Gene worked as an airline mechanic for American Airlines for 31 years until his retirement. Gene's hobbies included hunting and fishing. He and his wife Helen were members of the First Baptist Church in Collinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Gene to the FBC Building Fund or the Lottie Moon Christmas offering.
Gene is survived by his wife Helen Whitfield of the home; his sons, Keith Whitfield and wife Dana of Owasso, Kelly Whitfield and wife Amy of Weatherford, TX, and Chris Whitfield and wife Candice of Anniston, AL; his sister, Gay Blan; five grandchildren, Ryon, Alex, Paige, Claire and Cody Whitfield. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Ray, Leonard, Don, and Frank; and his sister Marie Whitfield Hendrix.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Collinsville with Dr. Tim Prock officiating.
