Charles Layton Jackson, 86, was born June 7, 1930 to Charles and Opal Schmelzla Jackson in Inola, Oklahoma and later moved to Collinsville. He graduated from Collinsville HS in 1949. He went to work at VVEC that summer. He left to serve in the Korean War in April 1951. After the war, he returned to VVEC and worked line construction, maintenance as a lineman and finally superintendent over construction and maintenance where he retired after 43 years.

Charles was an avid hunter, making yearly trips to Colorado for deer and elk hunting. He raised beagles and had big success in local and regional field trials with some of his beagles. He loved to garden and was known to have a little competition among his buddies for the earliest and largest tomatoes. He enjoyed his sports teams and was a regular fan at his granddaughters’ softball and basketball games.

He served as a Collinsville City Commissioner for many years and was a past master mason and member of The Collinsville Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, June and two children, Sherri Clark and husband Ted of Collinsville, and Charles Anthony Jackson and wife Sherrie of Meridian, MS. 5 grandchildren, Valerie Clark of Brooklyn, NY, Jaclyn Clark-Potts and husband Trevor of Ardmore, OK, Brittany Jackson of Ocean Springs, MS., Chelsie Jackson of Brandon, MS., and Charles Layton Jackson of Meridian, MS. He has one great-grandson, William Eli Potts of Ardmore, OK.

Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Alice Jackson of Sand Springs and Jerry and Sandra Jackson of Oologah. Four sisters and brothers-in-law, Fondine (Sue) and the late Harper of Enid, OK., Rosemary and the late Harold Frogge of Collinsville, OK., Joyce and Gary Lambert of Oologah, and Helen and the late Wayne McMillan of Oologah, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Sam, Bobby and Curtis Jackson, and one sister Betty Finnell.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Prock officiating. Interment will follow at the Ridgelawn Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home.
