COLLINSVILLE DOLTON
FUNERAL HOME
COLLINSVILLE, TULSA CO, OK
(permission granted)
Norman Lee "Peewee" Gougler Jr. was born Aug. 31,1937 in
Oglesby, Ok to Norman Lee "Bud" Gougler, Sr. and Verba Leona
Owens Gougler. At an early age he liked to work on things like
his dad, be it a bicycle, a scooter or anything mechanical. He
became a top-notch mechanic as a teenager and the high school
principal, Mr. Tyner, would frequently get him out of class to
fix something in the shop class. He worked at the Chevrolet
dealership in Collinsville after graduation. In 1960 he met and
married Judy Deen and was drafted 6 months later. He spent 20
months in Germany from 1960 to 62 after training as a tank
mechanic. He had many colorful stories to tell about his
experiences there. He proudly bragged that he was just 6 months
behind Elvis while he was there.
Upon getting out of the army he opened his own garage business
in Vera and while doing that built a hobby stock race car and
raced until it got so expensive he had to quit. By that time he
and Judy had a daughter, Gena and he closed the business and
went to work in Tulsa in a machine shop. By the time he and Judy
had their son, Brady, Norman was machine maintenance for 20th
Century Mfg (now Gardner-Denver). He retired from there after 27
years and stayed on the farm helping take care of his ailing
father who passed away in 2001.
Norman loved his family and many friends through the years and
watched Nascar faithfully until the last couple of years as
Dementia/Alzheimers took over and he couldn't remember who they
were.
He is greatly missed by all and will be for a very long time.
Survived by his wife, Judy of the home, 1 daughter, Gena McElhoe
of Tulsa, 1 son: Brady Gougler and his wife Trisha of
