Oklahoma City - Mabel Morgan Fuhrmann, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died the evening of Friday, April 9, at her assisted living apartment. She was 96.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, William Morgan and Ethel (Brown) Morgan, her siblings Harry Morgan, Claude Morgan, and Helen Jackson, and her husband of 71 years Clinton Fuhrmann.

She is survived by her children Mary White (William), Stephen Fuhrmann (Lola), Thomas Fuhrmann (Hillary), Daniel Fuhrmann (Sarah); nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mabel Marie Morgan was born on September 24, 1924, in Healdton, Oklahoma. She graduated from Healdton High School where she was valedictorian. She attended the University of Oklahoma, where she majored in home economics and chemistry and graduated with the degree Bachelor of Science in 1945. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, Mortar Board, and Omicron Nu Home Economics Honor Society, and she was active in Wesley Foundation at McFarlin Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Mabel married Clinton Roy Fuhrmann on September 1, 1946, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary shortly before Clinton's death in October 2017. Clinton and Mabel lived in Bartlesville from 1946 to 1969, and from 1969 to 2017 they lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for 35 years at their home in suburban Tulsa and more recently at Oklahoma Methodist Manor. Following Clinton's death, Mabel lived for two years at Oklahoma Methodist Manor and two years at the Legend At Council Road assisted living facility in Oklahoma City. Mabel began her career in 1945 as a chemist with the Phillips Petroleum Company. She stepped down from that career when she and Clinton started a family in 1948. In Bartlesville they lived on a 20-acre "hobby farm" where she was a stay-at-home housewife and mother to their four children. She was a devoted mother and her family meant everything to her. She maintained a beautiful home and always put good, healthy food on the table. She believed strongly in the value of education and encouraged her children to excel in academics and in music. As her children grew up and began to leave home, she took up an interest in mathematics and in teaching. She obtained her Oklahoma teaching certificate, and taught mathematics for many years, first as a substitute teacher in the Tulsa Public Schools, then at McLain High School in Tulsa, and finally to adult learners at Tulsa Junior College. Mabel's spiritual life was guided by the deeply held convictions of her Christian faith. While living in Tulsa she and Clinton were active members of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Her faith, her family, and her career made for a full and joyful life, made richer still by many hobbies and activities including American history (in particular the Civil War and Lewis and Clark), antiques, traveling, singing, and entertaining. She volunteered at the Wesley Foundation at Tulsa University and at the Gilcrease Museum as a Gillie in the Research Library. She also tutored young women at the Frances E. Willard Home for Girls. Mabel was cherished by family and friends, who remember her fondly for her life energy, her generosity, and the many tales of relationships and adventures recounted from her long life.

Mabel will be laid to rest next to Clinton at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa in a graveside ceremony Saturday, April 17th, at 10:00 AM. Plans for a Celebration of Life are pending for a later date.

Visitation is Friday, April 16th, at Moore's Rosewood Chapel, 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 S. Boston Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74119 or Oklahoma Methodist Manor, 4134 S 31st Street, Tulsa, OK 74135.
