His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Joseph Barnard of Kiltarlity, Scotland, nephew by marriage, will officiate. Strode funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Cemetery
in
Tulsa,
Oklahoma.
Rick was
born on
July 31,
1950 in
Manhattan
Kansas
to
William
Richard
Coutant,
Sr. and
Margaret
Edith (Byerley)
Coutant.
He
graduated
from
Sooner
High
School
in
Bartlesville,
Oklahoma
in 1968.
After
attending
the
University
of
Kansas
for a
year, he
received
his
Bachelor
and
Masters
of
Science
degrees
in
Mechanical
Engineering
from
Oklahoma
State
University,
where he
was a
member
of Pi
Tau
Sigma
Mechanical
Engineering
Fraternity.
Rick
married
Sherry
Lynn
Haas of
Bartlesville
on
August
7, 1971.
From
1974-1978,
Rick was
employed
by
Texaco
Inc. in
Houston,
Texas as
a
Project
Engineer.
In 1978,
he began
a
twenty-five
year
career
with
Phillips
Petroleum
Company
and
Chevron-Phillips
Chemical
in
Bartlesville,
Oklahoma,
where he
worked
in the
research
and
development
of
polymers.
Rick was
a member
of the
Oklahoma
Society
of
Plastics
Engineers.
He and
co-workers
received
the R&D
100
Award
for the
year
2000.
Rick
retired
in 2003,
and he
and
Sherry
moved to
Stillwater.
Rick is
survived
by his
wife,
Sherry,
of the
home;
his son,
Matthew
Richard
Coutant
of
Richardson,
Texas;
and his
daughter,
Marie
Suzanne
Johnston
and her
husband
Eric, of
Oklahoma
City. He
is also
survived
by his
mother,
Margaret
Coutant,
of
Tulsa,
Oklahoma;
his
brother,
Kevin
Coutant
and wife
Dell, of
Tulsa,
Oklahoma;
and his
grandsons,
Jack and
Alex
Johnston
of
Oklahoma
City.
Also
surviving
are
numerous
beloved
cousins,
nieces
and
nephews.
Rick was
preceded
in death
by his
father,
William
Richard
Coutant,
Sr.,and
his
sister,
Marilyn
Kay
Croston.
