Samuel John Davenport "J.D" Buckner was born September 23, 1917 in Savanna, OK to Samuel David and Clemmie (Holt) Buckner. He passed away peacefully on November 24, 2013 in Tulsa, OK.

J.D. attended school in Savanna, OK after which he worked with his father for Gulf Oil at the sub-station in Savanna. While working for Gulf Oil, J.D. received extensive burns from his waist to the bottom of his feet when there was a fire in a ditch he was working. He was sent to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa and was there for many months. J.D. remained in Tulsa after he was released for the rest of his life. He married Faye Marie Greathouse, also from Savanna, in 1940. Throughout his life he worked as a machinist for a few machine shops, ultimately opening his own shop in the early 1950’s until his retirement in the mid 1980’s.

He is survived by his nieces, Jodi Kelley Liebhard and husband Gary of Dayton, NV and Dena Sue Buckner McGuire of Arlington, TX; nephews, William “Bill” Lawson (raised as a brother) and wife Lois of Dallas TX, Samuel Buckner Shaw and wife Sharon of Carson City, NV, Wallace Buckner and Harold Buckner of Tulsa, and Rick Buckner of McAlester, OK; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Faye, in December 2003; parents, Samuel and Clemmie Buckner; sisters, Pearlie Lawson, Elene Benbrook, and Clemalee Kelley; brothers, Samuel David Buckner, and Samuel Delbert Buckner; niece, Deanne McCracken; and nephews, Tommy Buckner, Tracy Buckner, and Robert “Bobby” Lawson.

A special Thank You to Lorraine Clark, his caretaker for a time, and all of the staff at Inverness Village for the care and love you gave to my Uncle, Sam for all these years. He simply called all of you girls, “Baby”.
