Funeral services for Vernon Monroe McManus, of Collinsville, were held Monday, October 3, 2011 at First Pentecostal Church in Collinsville, OK. Reverend Don Martin officiated and burial was in Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, OK. Casket bearers were Reverend Ben Brown, Reverend Mike Denny, Wesley Rapp, Steve Cowie, Deon Roy, Barry Foster, James Brashears, and Rick Cross. Honorary casket bearers were Reverend Orville Hendryx, Leroy Shirel, Ruben Hearn, and Rex Dean.
Vernon was born April 8, 1943 in Bixby, OK to Vernon Allen and Martha Lena (Barnard) McManus. He passed away September 28, 2011 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 68.
Vernon had several occupations throughout his lifetime. He was a machinist and welder, truck driver, produce seller, owner of Grandpa's Produce; soul winner and teacher of bible studies, and served as a Missions Director for some area churches. Vernon served in the military for the United States Army. He was a loyal husband for 48 years.
He is survived by his wife Rita Joyce McManus of the home; sons, Vernon Wayne McManus and wife Janet of Tulsa, and Michael Monroe McManus and wife Rachael of Hastings, NE; daughter, Shalena Diane Pece and husband Timothy of Skiatook; grandchildren, Katrina Lawson, Krystal McManus, Skylar Pece, Victoria Kroeger, Mark Kroeger, Jonathan McManus, Mikaela McManus, and Autum McManus; great grandchild, Riley Lawson; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Martha McManus; sisters, Patsy Krouse, and Elaine McManus; brother, David McManus; half-sister, Silvia McManus; and half-brother, Carl Cotharn.
