LaVerne Marie McCoy
March 20, 1934 - June 17, 2025
Private family services are planned to celebrate and remember the life of LaVerne Marie McCoy. LaVerne will be laid to rest at Floral Haven Cemetery beside her husband Robert. She passed away in Tulsa on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, with family at her side. She was 91.
LaVerne was one of seven children and the last surviving child of Frank and Opal (Gill) Keiswetter. She was born in Edmond, KS, on March 20, 1934, and was raised and educated in Norton, KS and graduated from Norton High School. On August 7, 1954, in Norton, KS, LaVerne married the love of her life Robert Louis McCoy. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter Teresa. LaVerne worked as a barber, and it was a career that lasted for over 50 years.
A lady that lived her life doing things her way. LaVerne loved the outdoors and was a true sun worshipper. According to her family the warmer outside the better she liked it. She took great pride in her yard and on almost any warm day you could find her outside digging in the dirt somewhere. LaVerne mowed her own yard and most of the time she was barefoot. She was never interested in travelling; she liked being at home, sitting outside and at the end of the day having a toddy.
She loved to dance at the Moose Lodge or the Elks Lodge. In her younger days she was an excellent seamstress and made many of Teresa's clothes. LaVerne knew her way around the kitchen and everything she made was from scratch. According to her son-in-law Kelly, LaVerne was the best cook and was known for her cherry pies. In fact, when her husband was alive, she made him a cherry pie every week and it was packed in his lunch. When her grandson Travis came along, he initially called her LaVerne (she did not want to be called grandma) and later he started calling her the "Real McCoy".
A lady that has left a legacy that will live on in the lives of her family and friends. LaVerne is survived by her daughter Teresa Bolton, husband Kelly, grandson Travis and great grandson Sven. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Helen, and brothers, Virgil, Alvin, Boyd, Cecil, and DeWayne.
