Services for Clinton Odell Hood, 86, were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the Leonard and Marker Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Bixby Cemetery officiated by The Rev. Roy Lynn Hood. Services were in the care of Mike Marker of Leonard and Marker Funeral Home of Bixby.
Mr. Hood was born on July 6, 1922, in Panama, Okla., to Marion Francis and Juel Ada (Brown) Hood. He died Oct. 4, 2008, in Broken Arrow, Okla. The son of a tenant farmer and coal miner, Odell was the third of eight children. He graduated from Panama High School in 1941 and inherited a world at war. After a short stint with the Civilian Conservation Corps, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy Sept. 11, 1941. He attended university classes, ultimately receiving masters degree. He married Mary Alice Condo, Nov. 23, 1949. They settled in t Bixby where he would spend the next 25 years working as a school principal and retired from Bixby Public Schools as an assistant superintendent. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on February 10, 1988, as well as by four brothers, Leon, Roy, D.E. and Kenneth Hood, and one sister, Madge. He is survived by two sons, Leon Hood and wife Elfa, of Claremore and Steve Hood and wife Terrie, of Coweta; two sisters, Trebah Brown of Bixby and Dorothy Mos of Independence, Mo.; his best friend, Betty Chesbro of Bixby; five grandchildren, Rachel Bullis, Jared, Kendra, Adam, and Andrew Hood; two step-grandchildren, Danielle Coleman and Russell Goatley; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Hood, Lauren Bullis, Braden Hood, Collin Garner, Brooke Bullis, Pierson Hood and Jordyn Garner, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. Memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army or the Sojourn Care Hospice. Online tributes and condolences may be left for the family at www.leonardmarkerfunerals.com.
