Omega N. Floyd

November 11, 1926 - January 27, 2023

Omega Floyd went to be with her risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 27, 2023. She passed away in Stillwater, Oklahoma, surrounded by her children. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church in Frederick, Oklahoma, on Friday, February 3, 2023.
Omega Nadine Albert was born in Hendrix, Oklahoma, on November 11, 1926, to William and Virgie (McDonald) Albert. She attended Achille Schools where she played basketball and even baseball on the Achille Eagles boys' team. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Vernon Cleo Floyd, on August 8, 1942, and they were married for an incredible 65 years. Following their marriage, Omega and Vernon began a family together and served in churches and taught Sunday School in north Texas for several years. In May of 1954, Vernon accepted the pastorate for Bible Baptist Church, where they both served faithfully, side by side, for over 50 years. Omega taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school with her well known flannel illustrations, shepherded youth at Minnetonka Church Camp well into her seventies, and picked up thousands of children throughout the years to bring them to church. She spent her life in service to Bible Baptist Church and its people and touched countless families with her love and ministry throughout her lifetime.
In 1975, she bought the Spinning Wheel, "the store with a little bit of everything!" It became known in Frederick as a place where you could find fabric, odds and ends, a warm cup of tea, and good conversation. Omega spent many more hours visiting with friends sitting at the cutting table than actually selling fabric, but, for her, creating relationships was always time well spent. Her grandchildren loved to visit her at the store, where she would let them play in the overflowing button box and never hesitated to open up her cash register to get them a special treat.
Omega treasured nothing in life more than her family and that is saying a lot, since her house was always packed with treasures. She threw late-night coffee and tea parties with her grandchildren and loved her home to be overflowing with people, noise, and commotion during the holidays. Every family member was always sure they were her favorite. As a seasoned practical joker and one to never shy away from having fun, she was the source of much joy in her family. She is preceded in death by her parents and five siblings; her husband: Pastor Vernon Floyd, in 2008; son, James Floyd, in 1995; daughter-in-law, Debby Gant, in 2004; grandson, Tyler Floyd, in 1992; and grandson, Seth Floyd, in 2020.
She is survived by two sons: Roy Floyd and wife Lynda of Bonham, Texas, and Randy Floyd and wife Denise, of Enid, Oklahoma; two daughters, Dianne Gant and husband Allan, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Debbie Morey and husband Brent, of Frederick, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren: Sean Floyd, Chad Floyd, Rory Hilliard, Charlie Gant, Josh Morey, Jake Gant, Jenna Morey, Zac Floyd, and Cole Floyd; ten great-grandchildren: Will, Worth, and Wyatt Lacy, Kylie Walker, Matthew Floyd, Marley and Chandler Floyd, Easton and Jhett Floyd, Rocco Polidori-Gant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Omega taught us all many life lessons, including not to throw away "good stuff," the importance of welcoming people from all walks of life, and to take the opportunity to "love on people's necks" as often as you can. She leaves us with an abundance of warm memories and a legacy of love.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church, Omega Floyd Memorial Fund, 1600 N. 15th St., Frederick, OK 73542, in loving memory of Omega Floyd.
