Barbara Bentley

August 9, 1924 - October 30, 2009

Barbara Elizabeth Baugh-Bentley was born on August 9, 1924 in the Commercial Hotel, owned and operated by her parents, Jesse Doc and Ethel Belle (Ricketts) Baugh, in Chattanooga, Oklahoma. She died on October 30, 2009 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 85. Barbara was raised and attended school in Chattanooga. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ernest E. Bentley on August 5, 1940 at Chattanooga, and spent the next 21 years in the area raising their two children, Brenda Jean and Gary Don, farming and raising cattle, and helping Barbaras parents operate the Baugh Grocery and Texaco. They moved to Lawton in 1961 with Ernest framing houses for Doc Choat and Barbara keeping books for Kenmack Moving and Storage and for Terry Bell. Barbara and Ernest started their own successful home construction business, Bentley Homes, with Ernest handling the construction and Barbara taking care of the books. They retired in 1974, and Ernest died in 2001 after having built 8 new homes for Barbara during their marriage. Barbara never recovered from the loss of her best friend, childhood sweetheart and soul mate. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished friend. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lawton and the local Does Chapter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 61 years Ernest, son Gary Don Bentley, brother Murray Baugh, and grandson Kerri Neil Bentley.Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Jean Bentley of Lawton; granddaughters, Amy Beth Brinsfield and husband Richard of Chattanooga and Lisa Bentley of Arlington, TX; great grandchildren, Lacy Booker and husband Dustin, Casey Collin Henning, Tye Marvin Brinsfield, and Hailey Brinsfield, all of Chattanooga; great-great grandchildren, Kelsay Leigh Booker and Morgan Elizabeth Booker of Chattanooga; a sister, Jessie White of Lawton; and 4 nephews, Craig Baugh, Ronald White, Gordon White, and Deryl White.
