Sam Shilling, 78, lifelong area resident passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon.
The son of Elmer Overton and Buena Marie (Griffin) Shilling, Sammy Alva Shilling was born April 22, 1943 in Texhoma, Oklahoma. Sam graduated from Texhoma High School. After graduation he served in the National Guard.
Sam married Kathy Elliott on April 22, 1966. They lived in the Texhoma area and had three children.
Sam and Brenda (Hunter) Jackson were married on March 31, 1991 and resided in Goodwell.
Sam enjoyed team roping, farming, ranching and working as a contract pumper for many oil companies. He loved his animals and dogs as well as watching rodeos. He was known for his practical jokes, but could always be counted on to help family or friends in need. He could often be found at his favorite hangout, the Texhoma Sale Barn where he enjoyed coffee, meals and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Buena Shilling; son, Sammy Shilling on May 24, 1998; and step-son, Duston Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Shilling of the home; daughter, Natalie Wilson and husband, Rob of Elkhart, KS; son, Nathan Shilling of Elkhart; step-daughter, LaFonda Harvey and husband, Todd of Taylor, TX; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Sam is also survived by his sister, Elnor Harland of Texhoma; niece, Tina Harland of Liberal, KS and nephew, Ron Harland and wife, Cheryl of Guymon.
Viewing will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Chapel with Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Interment will follow at the Texhoma Cemetery.
