Mary Ann Furnish, long-time Guymon resident, passed away on June 16, 2023 in Bend, OR. Mary Ann was the fifth child of Tina and Henry Clark of Putnam, OK, born April 28, 1928. Only 2 of the children survived to adulthood.
She married Laverne Furnish on May 18, 1947 after the death of her father and the death of her mother shortly thereafter. They moved to Guymon to work at the Hitch Ranch in 1956. Laverne worked at the ranch for 35 years in which time, Mary Ann worked for Joyce Gray doing housework and cooked for 15 ranch hands in the summer, 3 times a day. She worked at Hitch Feed Lot and Frontier Feeders during corn season. After they retired in 1991 and moved to town, she worked at Guymon Furniture. She and Laverne also drove for different car lots in town bringing program cars back from auctions.

She worked with Bible School, the Good News Club, and was a member of the Hitchland Church Missionary. When that church closed its doors they joined the First Baptist Church in Guymon. They were nursery attendants for the 2 year olds until Laverne decided that was for someone younger.
Mary Ann enjoyed cooking for her kids, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She loved having them all sitting around the table, holding hands and saying a prayer before eating. Her advice was "When you go to bed at night, thank the Lord for the day. When you wake up in the morning, thank the Lord for your rest and your health". She and Laverne moved to Morton County Assisted Living in Elkhart, KS in 2011. She lost Laverne in 2012 and lived with daughter, Vicky and her husband Dave off and on, moving with them to Bend, OR in 2020.
