Elmer Ray Dillon
Elmer Ray Dillon passed from this life on Wednesday evening, Sept. 10, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John McGarey officiating and the Rev. Randy Southerland assisting. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ray was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Loco, to Elmer D. Dillon and Alice Josie Rice Dillon. He attended Loco schools.
On Nov. 15, 1941, Ray and his sweetheart, Billie Louise Mitchell, were married in the minister's parsonage in Countyline. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2001. Billie passed away on Sept. 25, 2002.
Ray served on active duty with the United States Navy Seabees in World War II in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1945 and returned to his native Stephens County where he lived the remainder of his life. He worked for the then Skelly Oil Company and subsequently Getty Oil Company in the Velma area for 37 years.
Ray was a "people person" who had many interests and countless friends throughout his life. He enthusiastically participated in Duncan Masonic Lodge No. 60, India Temple Shrine, political campaigns, fishing and hunting. He was an avid golfer and member of Duncan Golf and Country Club.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Duncan for 44 years.
Survivors include three nephews and their wives, Dean Dillon and Gayle of Duncan, Doug Dillon and Marie of Richardson, Texas and Jack Dillon and Rhonda of Redmond, Wash. Also surviving are numerous great nephews and nieces.
Ray was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Otis B. Dillon and Claud "Doc" Dillon.
Bearers will be Bob Jantz, Ed Edmondson, Odell Hooper, Bill Dillon, Steve Jantz and Gene Kelly. Honorary bearers are Irby Wagnon, Donald Rice, Roy Lott, Leland Crissman, Mickey Rowell, John Eubanks, Rusty England, Larry Presgrove, Russell Presgrove, Jerry Emerson and Wayne Holden.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice or First Presbyterian Church, 704 W. Ash, Duncan, OK 73533.
