© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma 5 September 2003 Gilford Goodwin Whitley Funeral service for Gilford Goodwin Whitley, 90, of Ninnekah, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2003, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel, Rush Springs, with Rev. Robby Ayres officiating. Gilford Goodwin Whitley was born March 2, 1913, in Mount Ida, AR, to James Whitley and Alfar [Brashears] Whitley, and died Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at his residence in Ninnekah. He married Margie Lee [Mercer] Whitley. She preceded him in death October 13, 1999. Gilford had lived in Rush Springs since 1947, until he moved to Ninnekah in 1986. He enjoyed gardening, spending time at the Senior Citizens Center and Playing Dominoes. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alex. He was also a service foreman for Rock Island Railroad. He was preceded in death by his parents and spouse. Survivors include 3 daughters and their spouses: Margaret Bateman of Chickasha, Freda Jo Brumley and husband Earl of Ninnekah, Linda Sue Whaley and husband Carol Wayne of Callawassie Island, SC; 1 brother, Richard Whitley; 6 grandchildren: Rodney Whaley, Kimberley Castaldi, Mellissa Kellis, Marni Ross, Charlie Nye, and Whitley Brumley; 4 great grandchildren: P. J., Cindy, D. J., Arin, Grayson, Rianna; cousin, Glen Vandever. Songs: Daddy's Hands." "I'll Fly Away," "Amazing Grace," "I Can Only Imagine."
