JAMES WHALEY DIES, FUNERAL IS HELD SUNDAY

James (Jim) Milan Whaley, 73, died in a local hospital Friday after a month's illness. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. L. McClung, pastor of the First Baptist church, in the Callaway-Smith funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Whaley was born in Knoxville, Tenn., October 27, 1874. He was married to Kina Blair in 1891 and moved to Texas the same year. Four children were born to them before her death in February of 1902.

July 30, 1905, hw was married to Katherine Nite at Gainesvillt, Texas. They moved to Marlow from there in 1911.

He is survivors include his wife and eight children, Mrs. Ott Tackel, Marlow; Mrs. H. A. Chase, Lepanyo, Ark.; Mrs. Ray Zubiri, Richmond, Cal.; Mrs. Clarence McClendon, Marlow; Mrs. Charles Millron, Richmond, Cal.; John Whaley, Marlow; Ernest Whaley, Marlow, and George Whaley, Oakland, Cal.

One brother and three sisters, John Whaley, McClallan, Ark.; Mrs. Dona Lee, Tracy, Cal.; Mrs. Synthia Brock. Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Mandy Shahan, Marlow, and 34 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

His grandchildren were the bearers. Callaway-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances Katherine "Kate" [Nite] Whaley

Services Held For Mrs. Whaley

Mrs. Frances Katherine "Kate" Whaley, long-time resident of Marlow, died about 1:45 p.m. Friday in the University Hospital at Oklahoma City of burns received Tuesday in a grass fire that surrounded her in the back yard of her home in the East Addition. She was 66 years of age at the time of her death.

The funeral was held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. on the Callaway-Smith Chapel. Rev. Muriel Gaskill of Duncan conducted the services.

Born in Jeddo, Tex., May 20, 1887, Mrs. Whaley was married July 20, 1905 in Gainsville, Tex., to J. M. Whaley. He preceded her in death in 1947. Mrs. Whaley had lived here 43 years and was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church if Duncan.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs Elizabeth Tackle. Lawton; Mrs. Lee Case, Le Pande, Ark.; Mrs. Mattie Zubiri, Hayward, Calif.; Mrs. Donna McClenden, Duncan, and Mrs. Lois Milliron, Marlow. Three sons surviving are John and Ernest of Marlow and George of Fresno, Calif.

Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Sally Dill, Marlow; Mrs. Polly Dodson, San Pablo, Calif.; Mrs Williw Welch, DeLeon, Tex.; Mrs. Kappie Bell, Chickasha, and three brothers, J. C, Nite, Oklahoma City; Bud Nite, Marlow and Sam Nite, McMagan, Texas. 33 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Willie Whaley, Wayne Whaley, Glen Whaley, Lloyd Whaley, Jummy McClendon, Woody McClendon, Robert Case and Leon Couch.

Burial was in the Marlow Cemetery with the Callaway-Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
