John Robert Peters
September 6, 1929 - October 27, 2017
John Robert Peters, of Marlow, was born September 6, 1929, to Noah William and Gladys Fay (Mur) Peters in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. He passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017, at the age of 88.
Family visitation is scheduled for Sunday, October 29, from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home. The family requests that there be no visitations at their home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 30, at 2:00 P.M. at the Lakeside Baptist Church of Marlow with Lawrence Gresham officiating. Interment will follow at the Marlow Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Stephens County Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
John graduated from Sasakwa High School. He married Lavinia Clements Carter on November 17, 1993 in Amarillo, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1947 through December 1949. John then worked at the Texaco service station in Duncan for 30+ years. John also worked as a boat repairman, in the oilfield, and for Pollock Engine Repair. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, crafts, and country & western dancing. He loved reading his Bible and attending church activities. He also enjoyed working at the Bray Food Bank. Also he and Lavinia enjoyed being a part of the Oldies but Goodies group at Lakeside.
John is survived by his wife, Lavinia; his children, Darlene Black, Bobby and wife Mandy Peters, Sheri and husband David Gaede, Tandra Carter Woodard, Sharmaine Carter Sampson; his seven grandchildren; his nine great-grandchildren; his three great-great grandchildren; his sister, Susan and husband Jacky Hicks; his nephew; his great-nephew; and two special friends, B.J. Hines and Lloyd Wiggins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Clyde Lee Carter; his grandson, John Chance; and his parents-in-laws, John and Myrtle Clements.
Serving as pallbearers will be men from his Sunday school class, David Lord, Lanny Landram, Richard Brooks, Joe Mitchell, Randall Sevier, Matt Foster and James Carman.
Memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Lakeside Baptist Church Benevolence Committee or to the Bray Food Bank.
