Butch Lane
November 24, 1944 - February 17, 2017
G.W. "Butch" Lane, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was born November 24, 1944, in Alma to John L. and Edith Vanoy Stinnett Lane. He passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017, at the age of 72.
Family visitation will be on Tuesday, February 21, from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at Whitt Funeral Home.
Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, February 22, at 2:00 P.M. at Bethesda Church of God, with Rev. Harold Ray Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at the Marlow Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.
Butch graduated from Velma High School. Following graduation, he was drafted into the US Army, where he served for 2 years as an ammunition specialist in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on April 20, 1972. He married Jana Diane Ward on March 30, 1979, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They had four children, Laurie, Gina, Brent and Jennifer.
He was employed by Halliburton as a warehouse supervisor. He retired in December, 1994 with 26 years of service. Butch enjoyed buying and fixing up old cars, his favorite classic was a 1966 Chevelle SS. He raised paint horses and taught his grandkids and great-grandkids how to ride. He loved watching OU sports and the PBR. He loved his family but was devoted to his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was the best PaPa ever and held the record for beating all his grandkids and great-grandkids in foot races.
He is survived by his wife, Jana; his children, Laurie and spouse Tracey Griffiths of Lubbock, Texas, Gina and spouse Dean Cavel of Marlow, A. Brent Lane of Cordova, Tennessee, and Jennifer and spouse Aaron Ferguson of Duncan; his grandchildren, Trey Lynn Dittner, Taylor and Nicolas Cavel of Marlow, Ashton Lane of Artesia, New Mexico, Derrick Lynn McAdams and Alexia Lynn Newman, of Duncan; his great-grandchildren, Easton, Korbin and Chesnie Dittner; his sister-in-law, Karen Lane of Duncan; cousin Cotton Lane, who Butch loved like a brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Johnny Lane, one sister, Linda Lane, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Darwin and Mary Helen Ward.
Memorial contributions may be made in Butch's name to the Stephens County Honor Guard or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
