Mildred Lois [Jones] Woody

Mildred Lois [Jones] Woody went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, Sept. 10, 2008. Mildred was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Duncan, Okla., the daughter of William H. and Manila [Burch] Jones.

She graduated from Duncan High School with the Class of 1938.

She married Joddie Robert Woody.

She spent the majority of the following 21 years living and working in Duncan. She worked at McClellan's, the Dixie Store, Ben & Ray's, the Refinery, and was managing partner of Mildred's Tot Shop. As much as she loved to work, she loved her family more. She was one of the original "Super Moms."

She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she could be found on Sunday mornings with her and Joddie's five children.

Mildred's interests were many and varied ... from bridge and bowling to coin collection and antiques. In the late 1960s and 70s, Joddie and Mildred were living in Enid, Okla., and Mildred found new careers. First she was in personnel with Woolco Department Stores and next became active in real estate, becoming a real estate broker and beginning her own business, Mildred L. Woody's Real Estate. It would be difficult to name a subject which did not capture her curiosity.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joddie; brothers, Cecil, Alvin, Hershel, and Art (Mony); sisters-in-law, Patricia and Sally; her grandson-in-law, Mark Christian, husband of Clair Christian; her great-granddaughter, Paige Shipley; her nephew, Tim Jones; beloved cousins, aunts, and uncles, as well as her grandparents.

She is survived by her five children, Joddie W. Woody and his wife Sharon, Steven G. Woody and his wife Jeanne, Mony Paul Woody and his wife Carol, Coleen Wood, and Cherri Lyne and her husband Dick; eight grandchildren, Clair Christian, Sherri Hunt, Jodi Woody, Misti Powell, Wende Chaille, Steven M. Woody, Lindsay Woody and Chelsi Shipley; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be missed by her family and friends whom she leaves behind. For some of us, she is the reason God made Oklahoma.

Funeral services are being held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Duncan on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. with burial following in Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home today, Sept. 12, 2008. The Rev. Buddy Hunt will officiate.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Mildred's nieces and nephews: Melinda Manoles, Mony Jones, Mike Jones and Mona Jones.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lincoln Elementary PTA, 915 Classen Blvd., Norman, Okla., 73071; Immanuel Baptist Church, 207 N. Second, Duncan, Okla., 73533, or the charity of donor's choice.
