R. G. Thompson

R. G. Thompson, 83, of Altus, formerly of Duncan, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, in Altus.

Service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Hall officiating and the Rev. Phil Wahl assisting. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery.

R. G. was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Sugden, to R.G. and Mattie Lou Thompson Sr.

He married Zoel Wheeler on June 1, 1940, in Waurika.

Mr. Thompson played college football, basketball and baseball at Connor State College. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy.

He retired after 46 years of service from Halliburton as a supervisor in the Tool and Die Department.

Mr. Thompson was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Zoel, of the home; two daughters, Kathy Darby of Duke and Sharon Quick of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Wanda Turner of Brandon, Ore., and Faye of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

His parents and a son, Jerry Thompson, preceded him in death. Bearers will be Mr. Thompson's grandsons.
