Artie Helena James, 92 years 3 months and 6 days, from Tahlequah (formerly of Gore) passed away November 21, 2013.

Artie was born August 15, 1921 in Coffeyville, KS to Arthur and Carrie Belle Drake. As a child Artie's family moved around the United States alot before settling in Oklahoma. On August 29, 1943 Artie married her soul mate, Jessie James in Gore, OK. Artie and Jessie raised their 6 children in an old log cabin in the Gum Springs area. No matter how hard times were for her family Artie always made sure her family was well taken care of. She canned all of their foods, loved cooking for her family, and her children's clothes were always clean. She was a very unselfish mother and wife and if someone was going to do without in her family it would have been Artie. Artie loved drawing, painting, music, watching the birds, and working in her garden. She made the best homemade biscuits and fried chicken. Her family was her life and spending time with them was what she treasured the most. Artie loved drawing, painting, music, watching the birds, and working in her garden.
