Willie Mae Childress, age 78, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Round Mountain Church in Vian with Reverend Kenneth Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Round Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Visitation will be available on Thursday until 5:00 pm and on Friday until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Willie Mae Childress was born on May 14, 1938 in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma to Edgar and Flora (Cowett) Peoples and the loved by step-father, Roy Holeman. She grew up in Sequoyah County then lived in Ft. Gibson for a while. She married Howell Childress on September 26, 2001 in Indianola and they lived in Muskogee for several years and recently moved to the Eufaula area. Willie Mae worked as a secretary for a number of years. Her favorite activities were spending time with her family, especially her grandkids, and she loved to go fishing. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband, Howell Childress of the home, children, Norma Betts of Wagner, Shelly Church of Indianola, Kathryn Crutchfield and husband Steve of Wagner, John Edward Owens of Tulsa, JonAnn Esponge and husband Eric of Kansas City, Missouri, Debby Pack and husband Eulan of Sapulpa, Brenda Schuessler and husband Carl of Muskogee, Donnie Cook and husband Dennis of Ward, Arkansas, Connie Schlehuber and husband Brian of Tulsa, Dennis Childress of Arlington, Texas, Stacy Smith and husband Todd of Glen Haven, Flordia, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Geneva Foreman and husband Lloyd of Vian, 1 brother, Johnny Peoples and wife June of Vian and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 children, Vicky Nail and John Winter and a brother, Charles Peoples.

Active pallbearers are Jeremy Kennedy, Johnathon Church, Michael Allison, Brian Schlehuber, Braden Schlehuber and Ricky Peoples.
