David Paul Marshall
Jun 30, 1951 - Sep 15, 2007
David Paul Marshall was born
June 30, 1951 to Betsy Wilcat Jones and Paul Sandy Marshall in
Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 15, 2007
at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 15 days at his home in the Rocky
Mountain Community near Stilwell, Oklahoma.
David attended and graduated
from Notchitown and Gore Public Schools. He received a Bachelor of
Science Degree and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Northeastern
State University and a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology
from the University of Arizona. He was the first full blood Native
American in the Nation to graduate with this degree. David was a long
time employee of Indian Health Service and worked in Anchorage, Alaska
for two years before retuning to Oklahoma and working at W.W. Hastings
Indian Hospital for the past 23 years as an Audiologist. He was
dedicated to providing the best servie to his patients.
David was a devoted husband
and father and Christian. He accepted the Lord as his personal savior at
an early age and was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church. He served
as the Sunday School Director and Song Leader until his health began to
fail. He loved to play the guitar, sing Cherokee and Creek Gospel hymns
and document the genealogy and history of the Wildcat/Buster family and
the Notchietown community.
David can best be remembered
as an avid sports fan. He sponsored or coached little league baseball,
independent basketball and softball teams, and vollyball teams. Many of
his former team members lovingly call him "The Legend" because of his
many years of actively playing sports. He was also a dedicated and loyal
fan of Sequoyah High School sports team. Most of all, David will be
remembered by his family for being a kind, caring, compassionate man.
His home and heart was always open to all who needed a friend. He
frequently "adopted" someone who was down and out or needed a helping
hand.
We will truly miss our husband, father, brother, family and friend.
He is survived by his wife,
Ervina Marshall, of the home, and two sons; Kristian Marshall of Tulsa,
and Eric Marshall of the home, two sisters; Phyllis Yargee and Betsy
Annette Jones both of Gore, OK, one brother; Robert "Tiger" Jones of
Perkins, OK and one half-brother Michael Marshall of the Okmulgee area,
eight nephews, six nieces.
